On May 5, 80th Inf Div CP at VÖCKLABRUCK, Austria. On May 6, it was at BRAUNAU.
The 318th Inf Regt was located at ALT AUSSEE, Austria on May 18, 1945. The Div HQ was located at PICHLWANG near Vöcklabruck, Austria.
The 80th Inf Div relieved the 36th Inf Div at KAUFBEUREN on June 17 1945. The 318th Inf Regt was located at KEMPTEN.
(Readjustment: In late July, low-point vets were transferred from the 45th Inf Div and 10th Armd Div to the 80th Inf Div. The Div was expected to move to the Pacific Theater. Redeployment was scheduled for December.)
The 80th Inf Div CP moved to Garmisch on Sept 10, 1945.
In late September the 16th Armd Div was redeployed. The Div had been occupying an area northwest of PILSEN, Czech. that extended to the northern tip of Czechoslovakia. One regiment of the 80th Inf Div was originally assigned to the northern sector. Later the division artillery was also moved. The 319th Inf Regt moved to Czechoslovakia on Sept 16 1945. DivArty moved on Sept 20, and still later the remainder of the 80th Div joined the other div elements in Czechoslovakia. The 318th Inf Regt left KEMPTEN for the area around MARIENBAD, Czech on Sept 23.
The mission of guarding certain security targets previously assigned to the 80th Inf Div was taken over by the 71st Inf Div on Oct 10 1945. The 317th Inf Regt moved from GARMISCH to Czechoslovakia, closing in PILSEN on Oct 15, 1945. (The Regt CP opened there on Oct 16?)
On/around Nov 15, the 80th Inf Div was alerted to move to ASCHAFFENBURG, Germany for shipment to the ZI as a Category IV unit. The tentative sailing date was set as Dec 28 1945. The 318th Inf Regt left for ASCHAFFENBURG on Nov 20, 1945. The 80th was ordered to clear Czechoslovakia by Dec 1.
(Readjustment: Between Nov 15 and Dec 11, high-point vets were transferred from the 94th Inf Div and 102nd Inf Div to the 80th Inf Div.)
On/around Dec 12, the 80th Inf Div was processing at a tent city near FRANKFURT, prob. HEPPENHEIM. Orders were received to move by rail to France.
On Jan 1, 1946, the 318th Inf Regt left LE HAVRE for the ZI. |
